Satellites studying the Sun have caught images of the death of comets as they plunge into the Sun. Although astronomers have known for years that the Sun's gravity can pull a comet apart into many small fragments, scientists had not seen the actual impact of a comet with the Sun until they obtained these satellite images.
In the movie below, you can see two comets on the lower right approaching the Sun and disappearing into the glare. As a bonus, you will see two coronal mass ejections shortly after the comet impacts.
